An Important Note From Miss Lesley!

From August 2009 to August 2010, Lesley will be joining CTI Music Minstries as a vocalist, traveling around the USA, Canada, and Taiwan to minister to youth through music. Although this means that this art & design blog will be on hiatus while she is away (boo!), she has created another blog (yay!) where you can follow her adventures at lesleydenfordadventure.blogspot.com.

Wreck This Journal :: Week One

Hoo boy, cracking the spine and tearing out pages of a brand new book goes against every fiber of my being! But I did it anyway, teeth clenched and eyes closed. Here's this week's progress with the journal that is TORTURING ME BY INSTRUCTING ME TO DESTROY IT:

First things first - the spine needed to be cracked. And as hard as I tried, it really didn't want to. It took a few good tries to crease it, and then I died a little inside.
Being the organized little girl that I am, I of course had to fill in my name and address. If I lose this book it had better be returned to me, because there is NO WAY that I am destroying another beautiful helpless journal!Next came sticking random things in the journal, like postage stamps from my mail (all from Willmar, Minnesota this week!) and fruit stickers. This part I like. I am essentially an expert at sticking sticky onto other things (see this for proof!). If the book was called Wreck This Journal Simply by Sticking Interesting Collected Things In It, I'd be a happy camper.
After the pleasure was more pain to be had...tearing out my very first page. I have since bid it farewell, and I hope it leads a very lovely life in my kitchen garbage can. (I miss you already, black page.)
My fellow wreckers...how's your wrecking going this week? (And for those of you who have no idea why I'm willingly destroying a book, read this.)

Happy Friday!

Yay, Lesley! Way to embrace the destructiveness, even when it's a challenge. I had a hard time cracking the spine too - I mean, it was challenging for me and also the book resisted!

Farewell to your little black page. Hello to the space it created. Cheers to the adventure of it all!

I had trouble cracking the spine too - it simply didn't want to bend and I had to really, really, really be firm with it!!

happy wreckage!!

I have been focusing more on making things and doing things and putting things into the book... I have pretty much ignored the pages that are really about destruction and loss without having a resulting piece of "art" (no matter how chaotic) as evidence of my having been there.

Am I talking too much?

Basically, you have inspired me to stop talking so much and let go.

Yipes.

My friend cracked the spine for me. It was almost physically impossible for me to do it. I'll be posting my progress later!

Well done wrecking.
I don`t think the spine will ever "crack" - this is the strongest spine I ever met.
