Hey there Delilah, what's it like in New York City?
After a week of waiting, I have finally accepted that I live in Canada, it's late November, and I am just not going to get the bright sunny day that I wanted for taking pictures. I've been dying to put these up - thanks so much to everyone who commented and asked for them! I got up early today to tidy up Carrie and get her all dressed up for her photos, and I think she looks pretty cute on this chilly Saturday morning. Let me unveil her to you, in all her fabulous glory! I'll also let you in on some of my little design tricks and ideas, because I'm awesome like that. The entrance. The magnetic bulletin board on the wall is from Ikea, and I covered it in decorative paper from Loomis & Toles, and some pretty Mokuba grosgrain ribbon. The green bowl is also from Ikea, and it's my stash of loonies (that's dollar coins to all you international folk!) and quarters for laundry. And it may also become my emergency sushi fund, if there's ever a night I'm craving it but short on cash. Which happens more often than I care to mention.
Living/bedroom area. Ain't Carrie cute? The loveseat is a hand-me down from my grandma, and it's a pullout, which I need since I don't have anywhere else for guests to sleep. I thought about getting a slipcover made for it, but instead of spending $600 on one (that's the quote I got for fabric and labour to make it!) I covered it with an old pair of curtains from...Ikea. Yes, I love that store.
The fireplace and console table. That white table is the coolest thing ever...the sides fold down and it becomes a console table, and then you can flip the sides back up and it's a full-size dining table! I love double-duty furniture like that, and desperately need it for Carrie since she's so small. The table is also from Ikea. It belonged to my parents, but I've had my eye on it for years.
Rocket dog. This is Rocket Dog. He was a housewarming gift from my lovely friend Beth. He's made of black leather, he wears a necklace, and he's my guard dog.
The living room. The retro side chair was a garage sale find, and I love it. I made the pillows on the chair from fabric samples at work - one of the perks of being a designer.
The sofa and bedroom. I use the term "bedroom" loosely, because it's all just one room. Don't you love the zebra throw on the couch? I have great friends that buy me zebra-printed things because they know I love it. (Thanks Elizabeth!)
The bed and night table. Again, I use the term "night table" loosely, because it's really just one of my old dining chairs. I figured I might need a chair if anyone actually came over for dinner, and I actually cooked. (Neither of which are very likely!) I got the idea from Sex and the City...I love that Carrie (the real Carrie, not my apartment) had an old wooden chair beside her bed.
The dresser. I think this dresser was my dad's when he was little, and then it was mine when I was little. It's so simple and has got such great lines. I've always loved it. All I did was paint it white and add some fabulous cut glass knobs from Anthropologie. I need a new mirror and a new stereo since the stereo is not mine, so this area might change a bit in the near future.
The bookshelf. Please note the fact the everything is in rainbow order and arranged by size. Carrie and I would not have it any other way! It makes us soooo happy. Mmmm.
The desk. I love this desk so much, since I can just close the doors and hide all my computer stuff. I don't usually have any clutter around, but there's always a few papers and random things I'm working on, and it's nice not to see it all the time. The desk is from Ikea, and it came in nasty unfinished knotty pine, but I painted it up all pretty. The baskets on top have my sewing machine and all my fabric scraps in them. The chair to the right is without a doubt, the most fabulous piece of furniture on the face of the earth. You can quote me on that. I can't tell you how much I love Philippe Starck's designs.
The desk and the kitchen. Oh Carrie, you're just so darn pretty!
The kitchen. I didn't do much here, only hung a couple of things on the walls. I might get a small carpet though, because the ceramic tiles are just screaming for some warmth and colour.
My most favourite piece of artwork. This was a gift, and it's one of the best gifts I've ever received. It's an original artwork by EGR, a Toronto artist who I love and have a huge art-crush on. (I just added her as a friend on Facebook, which excites me greatly!)
The kitchen. My dad found this red kettle for me, which I adore!
The coolest ugliest picture frame ever. I found this at Ikea, and it surprised me because it's totally not Ikea's style. But it's super fab! The image inside is a collage I made from a Romeo and Juliet poster that I had which was ripped at the edges and not looking so hot.
The fridge. Yes, I'm turning 24 next week. Yes, I still love magnetic letters. So there.
The hallway to the bathroom. The shelf above the door is from my last apartment, and it happened to fit perfectly and be painted nearly the same colour as these walls. I love when things like that work out!
The front door. I have this up right next to the door, and every day it inspires me to keep following my dreams and my heart. I'm trying my best to stay on this path all the time, even when there are struggles. I'm imagining a pretty fantastic life for myself!
The bathroom. The shower curtain and black liner are from Zellers. The white curtain was marked down from $90 to $36. Carrie's proud of me because I'm the best bargain shopper ever.
Super cute shelf. There's no storage in the bathroom, so all my extra towels and stuff are here. I treat it like a pretty little display.
Best mug ever. It says, "Maybe I want to look cheap". It was a gift, and I knew as soon as I got it that it would be perfect for all my makeup brushes. Kitchy and retro cute - me likey!
So now that you've seen the place, come over for some tea, okay? Carrie and I love company.

wow, everything is adorable! I love that chest of drawers - it must be fairly sturdy. i think all the furniture from when I was little (except for my metal bed frame) is now woodchips somewhere, I had to replace chest of drawers every three years or so because they would get wrecked!
I heart zebra print too - I have the most gorgeous faux-mink zebra blanket.
Carrie, you are so pretty :)
I'm glad you like her! It is a pretty sturdy dresser - it's solid wood, so it's lasted really well over the years.
I LOVE Carrie! Everything works so well together. I especially like the fact that the bookcase is arranged by colour/size :)
i used to have that mug, until some jerkface broke the handle off! grr! your place looks adorbs, btw!
Hahah...I'd be sad if that mug was broken too. From now on, just don't let any jerkfaces touch your mugs. It's a rule that I live by. :D
